The Maldon U3A active Committee organised a 1940s Evening in the Wickham Bishops Village Hall.
The live band was the Peter Pathfinders 1940 Show.
The evening started with the message by PM Chamberlin that said War was declared on Germany as the German High Commissionner had not said they would withdraw from Poland. An Air Raid Siren sounded followed by 1940s music to liven up the sombre start.

The Committee encouraged everyone to dress on 1940s gear. This was from a smart Naval Lieutentant, Warrant Officers, USAF Sergents, Land Girls through to Children on their way to Canada! The tables were decked in red, white & blue.

As everyone had brought their Ration Books the Committee
were able to persuade the local Fish & Chip Van to make a
personal appearance and cook just for us.

After the Supper the music encouraged those not wearing a Gas Mask to have a dance.
I wonder who spent the next day in bed?
